Original wool uniform set attributed to Melvin Stewart Lefever of York Pennsylvania. Set comes with a photo copy of his Veteran's Compensation Application. Coat has some moth damage to the right bottom pocket and small moth nips on the right sleeve and back of coat. Coat features a hand sewn 5th Infantry Division patch (patch and thread do not glow under black light), corporal rank insignia, wound chevron on the right sleeve, two chevrons on the left sleeve (1 year combat), US National Army collar disk, and 61st Infantry Regiment, I Company collar disk. The namer "CPL Thomas" is handwtritten inside, but uniforms were often reissued with mulktiple names and laundry numbers inside. Pants have a few, scattered, moth nips but overall in great condition. Comes with a copy of Lefever's Compensation Application detailing his military service. Some highlights include: participation in the St. Mihiel offensive and Meuse Argonne. He was wounded (shrapnel and gas) on October 14, 1918. Great research project!
